Rudder Assembly Repair - 1970 MOW

Post by 99hawk »

Last summer, we managed to separate the assembly that holds the pins for the rudder from the transom. (Long story - we also snapped off the tiller extension but that is an easier fix). I would like to re-attach the assembly to the transom. I thought about using dry wall anchors to go through the outer wall of the transom since we cannot get into the hull to put a nut on the bolts to secure them (I will try to post some pictures of the problem). The other thought would be to cut an access port so that we could reach in and secure the bolts with a nut. I have to say that I am not really interested in putting another (and much larger) hole in my boat. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Cathy S.

If it were me, I think I would cut an access hole large enough to get a socket through for each bolt through the transom. Just my 002. Then afterward, patch it all up really nice and permanent like.

Do a nice job so you never have to worry about it again :)
