New member that needs help

Post by Lastfin »

Before I get started, let me introduce myself. My name is Bill and I have been out of sailing for awhile but still love the sport. I've sailed in many states and countries. I've owned three boats over the years statring with an AMF Puffer and ending (until now) with a Catalina 30. Now for what I need help with.

On Sunday I was given a "project" boat. It is a 1978 Chrysler according to the HIN and manufacturers plate on the stern. The numbers are (HIN) CBC51392 M78E and 244AA51392 respectively. We measured the boat while upside down and it measured 17' 6". It is a dagger board boat not a swing keel so I don't think it is a buccaneer. It looks more like a laser on steroids. I only have the hull and mast, but it appears to be a sloop rig. Didn't see any roller furling gear or setup either. One of the things that perplexes me is that it is a dual cokpit withthe daggerboard trunk seperating the cockpit sections. Seating is on the deck not inside the boat.

I have some pictures on the iPhone but can't get them off yet. Will post when able. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I would love to resurrect this boat because it looks wicked fast and is very pretty.

It's a Dagger

Post by Lastfin »

I just ended the mystery. I have a Dagger. Thanks to the website and the documentation. I was sifting thruogh each model and stumbled onto the Model 244 dagger. Everything looks right.

Now if I can jsut figure out where to get a boom and rudder or the dimensions, I'll be all set. Thanks Chrysler Sailors for the great references. I'll be cruising through here periodically

Welcome to the forum Lastfin!
I grew up on a dagger many years ago and loved that boat!

I gather you have found our documentation page
http://www.captainscottsailing.com/php/ ... ocList.php

However you are looking for spars,
I've purchased from rigrite before but not spars.
Here is there page:
http://www.rigrite.com/A-Main/spar_M.html

if you can get one of the dagger owners to answer, you might be on your way!

Good luck!

Thanks for the links and the advice. I also stumbled into rigrite page and bookmarked it this afternoon. I'll also give the Dagger owners a shout and see if I can get some assistance from them.

I do have a dagger board, although somewhat warped, but no clue if it goes with the boat. Based on the photos in the manualsl page I think I can make one rather easily out of a piece of mahogony or other hardwood. Now I wonder if I can graft a rudder assembly from a laser?

OttoSolar, what specifically do you need to know? I have a Bucc in the yard with the tube luff rig on it. Are you missing parts? I can send photos of what you might need. Post back and let me know.
