Nice article. Do you have any pictures of your boat with the furler on? Maybe some pic's of how it's set up?

How does having a roller furler change the procedure for raising the mast, or does it?

It does not really change the mask raising process. However it does add another dimension to check before hoisting it up in the air. Make sure you have the messenger line hooked up. Also after spending $375 on the roller-furling unit you are more protective of PVC tape, it kinda flops around as you are raising. If you look at the above diagram on part G, this is where you connect the end of the stay to the boat and part B, the spool raises to access the turnbuckle for tightening. Then the spool is held down by pin C.

I will take some pictures the next time I go out.

Do you have to get a new sail for the roller furler or can you use the regular Genoa and retro fit it somehow?

Here are a series of photos showning it rolling out and in. Keep in mind that rolling out looks a lot like rolling in. The big different is the Ryan, in the red shirt, is pulling on the sheet to roll out and Ray, in the white shirt is pulling on the red line leading to the roller furling unit.

PS. the date is in correct
