I had this chasing me down Alan,

I hate we never got close enough to really talk, the storm was rolling in when we got under way and they headed back to the marina. I don't even know what kind of boat it is

Thanks ALan!

Good read... it's true, and Pam will testify to it,,, I always tweak and get max speed when someone is on the same tack as me, I don't care what they have...

Dang, And Alan invited me with him Sunday! HEy Alan, I need more notice to get on my calander!

Some interesting tidbits about racing in light air . . .

First of all, I deny all knowledge of racing sailboats. I'm a cruiser.

However . . . . . . In very light winds and in small boats set your sails as if you were sailing the wind. Then . . . . slip your body weight to leward and force your boat heel a tad. This will ad shape to your sails! Then use as little rudder as possible to steer! keep all movements slow and steady . . . .
I've won el toro races this way against much lighter sailors in flat calm seas. I was even offered a tow home one night and denied it. When all racers were finally towed to the dock I ghosted in. No tow!!!!

I even impressed my daughter :)

Again . . . . I know nothing of racing and will deny it adimately! LOL!

I also bring the keel up. In low winds and up it moves very well.

Now that, I didn't do and that would have helped me with the cross current too. He also had a 6 foot plus fixed keel. Ahhhh, missed it by that much. The answer was right under my feet. I'll do better next time.

You would think in a race that went that slow, and that long, I would have thought of that. But NOOOOO.

Thanks
Alan
