I'm getting closer to C-22 launch - One of the things I want to do is install a bilge pump in the void where the keel pin is. Getting water to flow from fore and aft to end up there is pretty simple, but my quesiton is where to send it! I want an exit above water line, even in unusual attitudes. One thought is to pump it into the cockpit so it can self bail, but that leaves about 10' of hose that backdrain into the void when the pump is shut down. What have you folks done?

Mine pumps straight out the back above but near the auto bailers. It does have quite the long hose for water drainback but it works OK for me.
Keep in mind that the hose should go up above the drain point at the hull kind of like a reverse "P" trap to avoid and water coming back into the boat! It will avoid any type of siphoning water back in!

install a check valve close to the pump if runback is your concern
im a new chrysler c 22 owner (bought it the end of may )i will be sailing out of port ritchie fl

check valve sounds like a good idea, but might not work, at least not the way I did it!

I tried a check valve located above the pump at the top of the bilge but even though it stopped backflow at that point, an air lock was created at the pump preventing any water from being pumped.

I removed the valve and found even with the hose running to the stern that only about a cup runs back in!

My thru hull for the bilge pump is right below the toe rail and works fine.

I have a thru hull fitting on the port side about 12" off the rail. It is just forward of the cockpit. I put a check valve about 6" from the pump and it seems to work well.

I put a forward and rear bilge pump in KG and plumbed the
discharges into the sink drain being careful to have high spot on each
so there was no chance of bak siphoning. While I was at it I put
a shutoff near the thru hull fitting so that could be closed. This I did
for a couple reaons. The first is the common sense one of being able
to close all lines if need be. The other was because in some conditions
waves can cause water flow in and out of the drain. This is not a big
deal during the day but that sound can drive you crazy when you are
trying to sleep at night. Since I had thngs torn apart I also put in a coupler
so that I can hook in a large 150gpm emergency pump that will
really move some water. This would be used to buy time while running
like hell to ground somewhere in the event I managed to get hulled. I keep
the big pump in a box in one of the lazeretts & hope I never ever have
to use it !
