Tiller Slop

Post by Windwalker »

Finally, after all the heat and light air over the summer we got a cool day with good winds on a day I was able to get to the boat (Chrysler 26)! Sailed well in 10+ knots… however.

I noticed some slop in the tiller/rudder response, enough to bother me. Part of it was in the tiller bracket to rudder post connection. I had it so that there was minimum rubbing when I lifter the tiller. I tightened it during the sail but still had slop in the rudder post/rudder blade connection. The bolt that held the base of the bracket was tight and not slipping, and the bracket base/rudder post joint did not slip. I will pull the boat this winter (for us in the Carolina’s that usually means January/February) but don’t want to pull it before then if I can help it.

Any suggestions as to what is wrong and if I can leave it without doing damage until winter?
