Great way to spend my cake day

Post by maRaider »

Managed to get out on the water for the first time in a while for my birthday today. Had fairly strong, if irregular breezes and explored more of the lagoon than ever before. Took 3 outings, one with each member of the family (Wife is still reluctant to go alone, more out of a worry of wrecking my toy than from lack of skill).

So much fun. The little Man-O-War really moves, even with my little lateen rig. I am still taking water in somewhere, it seems, so there' more work to do, but still a lot of fun.

I'm glad to hear you were on the water for your birthday. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I made an attempt for my maiden sail on my birthday, which was yesterday, but I couldn't make it happen. My sailboat list of to do's required more time than my schedule would allow so I missed it this year. I'll be on the water soon, though, hopefully by May, and expect to be on the water for next year's birthday sun, rain, sleet, snow, whatever. The only thing I can think of that would keep me, and my beloved C22, on the hard would be a dry lakebed and even that can be remedied with a trailer. Taking on a little water sounds pretty attractive from where I'm sitting right now.

Sorry you missed out, but once the C22 is ready, I am sure you'll more than make up for it. Happy belated birthday!

Love the video!

Took some of a friend in his a while back, in case you missed it. He has the original set up obviously, like your lateen set up though. He was out in some stronger winds and bent his mast...

@Bhacurly: That's exactly why I had to rig for Lateen. My first day out on the MOW (with the guy selling it to me) folded it over at the deck. Honestly, this gives enough speed to be fun, yet has the simplicity to be something I can train my 8 and 11 year old kids on.

@Beady, thank you!
