OT - testing the AC72 tri boat

Post by EmergencyExit »

There's a place in the clip at :34 where the chase boat is hitting 35knots and the AC72 is hanging right there with it..

"Where the chase boat had to hit 35 to 40 knots to keep up"

There, fixed that for you.

I'd love to take that boat to Stony Creek Metropark on a Creekfleet night. I'd show those Buc sailors a thing or two!

I want a boat that drinks 6, eats 4, and sleeps 2.

I have a feeling that San Fran Bay is going to chew up and spit out the AC72's  Or we are going to start seeing some redesign to keep them from nose diving.

and as the boat accelerated it pitch-poled
Dang, that must have been one helluva ride on a 72' cat. luckily no one was injured... or killed! I think I'll stick with mono hulls!

The trimaran that holds the world record actually lifts all the hulls like a hydroplane if I recall right - and I think they have controls like elevators to control that pitch axis.

The "pitchpoling" thing is sure going to be a problem..

Sure makes me miss my old Solcat!
Loved that boat but I sold it to make moorage payments on a boat I was trying to sell! LOL!

I also had an RC catamaran. To solve the pitch pole issue, I added inside each pontoon a piece of plastic like a foil. When she started to dive, the plastic acted like a foil and lifted the pontoon. That plus som additional weight in the stern of each pontoon made for a mighty fast RC sailboat!

Yeah, like other boats, I eventually sold her.

and that chase boat had 4 300 HP outboards what a waste of fuel give it mast keel and rudder and it would be more efficient.
Catch the wind and ride the wave, Have fun
