Needed badly: Chrysler Sailor 250 Carb

Post by Careyr »

I've been procrastinating on this need - and I am not getting any younger.
I bought my '81 TMI22 (C22 offspring) with the outboard thrown in as "not running". Before I sailed her in 2011 I had the time to troubleshoot and determine that it had carb problems. After removing the carb and disassembling it, I found the aluminum fuel bowl and pickup tube to be very oxidized - right up to the bottom of the metering jet.
Fortunately, it ran for the week I sailed it - but quite erratic, adjusting between rich and lean.. This winter I want to fix that problem. The carb is not a simple job to remove so I plan on overhauling the fuel pump/reed valves/whatever, so my outboard will run sweet. I do not have any desire to replace my "good old" outboard.
There have been times I've read about folks giving up on theirs and going to a newer outboard and my question is this: Does anyone out there have a carburetor from an old Chrysler Sailor 250 that you would like to sell? Or does anyone know of a place I could purchase this? What is needed, specifically, is the carb body and fuel bowl. If anyone thinks they may have or know something (hope, hope) I can give more details on the specific carburetor then.
THANKS!!
Carey

Sailor 250 carb

That thought had gone through my mind, as I was given his name once some time ago to buy a new wiring harness for my engine-to-boat (which I bought)
-- but I could not for the life of me remember his name.
Thanks -- again!! He was a huge help the first time!

I still have most of my old Sailor 280. Let me know if you can use any of it's parts. I suspect some are interchangeable, though I don't know for sure.

Can you tell me the year? I need the carburetor body and if I knew what year yours is I could start by researching if yours is a match with mine.
Thanks!

Okay I am ZERO help on the motor issue... But I am most interested in lots of photo's of your boat!

I would love to see what my boat grew up to be. I have not even looked. Do we have any documentation on the TMI line in our documents collection here on the forum. Photo's of, or even a link to photo's would be grand indeed.

Thanks
Alan

My Chrysler Sailor 280 is a 1979 model. If you want the carb, it's yours, just pay shipping.

Crysler 250 Sailor carb

Post by Careyr »

Thanks so much for the offer of the carb from your old outboard., tgentry!
I went on ebay and to my surprise a guy had my carb for sale!!
I have it in my possession, now.
Side note; while I was searching, I found a complete sailor 250 outboard for sale, it's serial number is two digits higher than mine. Maybe made same day? Anyhow, I am debating purchasing it.
Thanks again for the generous offer!!!
