larkshead knot for jib/genoa

Post by astrorad »

Hey everyone...I saw this video and was curious if anyone has used this knot for their jib/genoa instead of the bowline? I realize that you need one long continuous line twice the length of your normal jib sheet to do this.
One disadvantage that I see would be the need to pull both ends of line to the clew when changing sails. Any comments or experience with this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fk4nT3Clbk

I have used it on the Cal and loved it, no big bowlines banging on the shrouds. Changing headsails would be a pain tho.

I use that knot tied to a snap shackle for ease of head sail choice.
So far no one has been hit by the snap shackle
If I had a head sail larger than an 110% the shackle may be a hassle.

I use the larks head to tie a 30" 3/8" line to the clew of the head sail, leaving about two 15" tails. I use the two tails to tie a double sheet bend to a bight in the center of the jib sheet. Easy to change head sails, no metal flopping at the end of the sail.

A double sheet bend is the same as a single, just treat the two lines as one and tie side by side. In this case neatness counts.

I've never has this knot slip, it's easy to tie, and best of all, cheep. :P

Me too. Love it! I have seperate sheets for every headsail. They've been on them for years.

I used on my Hobie Cats, but it seems a pain for sail changes.

I use this one. It has always worked fine. Easy to set up and remove when you want to.

Great!!! That will make a sail change easy and no metal to clang around...faster than two bowlines too.

That's a brilliant solution! Unfortunately I have separate jib sheets, so it won't work for me until I replace the sheets.
