Trying to get the boat ready...

Post by Gus »

What a day! I installed two inspection ports, and I removed, cleaned and resealed the tramsom hardware. I was surprise that chrysler had a good 1/4 inch of wood in there, so I didn't needed to add backing blocks. With fresh 4200 I pray it will not leak now :)

Next projects are: finding a way to install the battery in the port side (my outboard has electric start to it has to go in the bilge under the cockpit)
And project 2, my boat came with no winches. There's no evidence that my boat ever had winches. What I've got, two harken high load clam cleats, I was thinking in installing the cleat foward of the block mounted in the coaming, is that a good idea?

Gus, my 22 doesn't have winches... I think someone removed them years ago.

However, the current setup has me wanting. I find cam cleats are easier for single-handed sailing, but I'm looking for a better setup than mine. Do you have any ictures of your rigging?

Thanks Patrick! I love the boat, but... man, I'm fixing some rotten core under the lifelines stanchions... what a PITA!! Two days and I just did 2 in the starboard side!!! grrrr.... I'll try to finish the last one tonite.

Basically, what I found after cutting the liner... I found a piece of plywood in good condition, and some balsa core, totally rotten. Looks like when they installed the stanchions, they miss the backing plywood!! The stanchion sits in the balsa core, and since it was rotten, the deck would bulge down... well, all that is gone now, I removed everything, epoxied and glassed a new piece of wood. Two done, 4 to go.
