I hope I never have to do this, but it's nice to know that it can be done.
I suppose these same rules apply for a C26 with just minor adjustments...?

Yes, with some adjustments - the C26 pin is captured between two halves of a shoe right at the front of the keel area on the boat, and on the underside of the hull.

Some good pics of the "Shoe" (or at least a replacement for it) is on the chryslersailing.lizards.net site, under the "How To's" look for
