hook in mast heel casting missing

Hi;

Just got a Chrysler dagger 14! Boat is in surprisingly good shape. One key piece missing – the hook in the mast heel casting, as per the owner’s manual, is missing.

“slot in the mast heel casting almost engaged with the hook on the deck plate”

There is a threaded hole in the center of the deck plate, and the previous owner has a wing screw with a Teflon washer that he had used to step the mast onto.

Question – was the original hook welded to the deck plate? Is there something I could use instead of the original hook?

Really excited to get the boat in the water this weekend!

Thanks!

If its anything like the other Chrysler its a cast piece, both base and hook. And they are a bit brittle and lightweight considering the size of the mast of the C26..Was just looking at a pic of it in the manual just to the left of the passage you mention and that's what it looks like as well. If the homemade pin is giving you a good enough point to keep the bottom of the mast in place while you step the mast, Its probably fine. Once up I'd think the weight is all straight down on that step unless something really its the mast base hard enough to kick it out of place.

Ok - thanks so much for your reply! The homemade pin keeps the mast in place well while we step the mast. Will sail it a few times to make sure! Appreciate your feedback!
