New Owner

Post by avidsailor »

I have just purchased off Ebay a 1975 Chrysler 22 sailboat with trailer. She needs work. Looking for good resources for parts. May have to drop the keel and rudder. Any suggestions

Welcome to the forum! Most here have done that ,..and lots more! Check the links on the main forum page for Rudder and Keel. Everyone has their own way of dropping the keel, so browse thru those posts and you'll get ideas. Most keels on older C22's have major rust issues and require heavy grinding, sanding, etc. to get back in good shape. There's also the issue of the support bracket, which on older boats is also a source of rust. It was mostly fabricated from off the shelf galvanized steel plumbing parts. Most here have gone to stainless brackets. Again, lots in the Keel section on that.
Rudder isn't too bad of a restoration project. A frequent source of frustration is the rope design for extending/retracting the rudder.
Hope that helps to get you started.
Again, welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard!
Fire away on Questions! Many here as stated have done many repairs on the C22. Our documents page also has the most documents of all the boats for the C22.
