Thoughts on getting water out of the hull

Hello everybody. I’m finely starting to work on my new C22. I found an access
Hole under the sliding galley today and some water in the hull under the sole. I siphoned out what I could but there’s a stringer stopping me from geting the rest. Any advice on getting the water out of the hull? I know nothing about boats. This is my first project. I figure there’s no better way to learn that first hand. My thoughts are to lower or raise the tongue of the trailer with a car jack so all the water runs to one end of the boat and then cut an acsess hole in the sole to siphon it out. Do you guys see a problem with this? Is there any horizontal stringers or foam that would stop all the water from flowing to one end? Do this boats have a bilge? I crawled in the coffin to Look around. I didn’t see anything.

Hello and again welcome to the forum!

I installed a "Water Puppy" pump under the companion way near the keel winch. The "out" tube ran under the cockpit and out a drain I had installed well above the water line. The "input" or suction end of the hose I left long enough to reach all these areas and I used it like a shop vac to empty the bilge and under the sette's. The large rubber caps in the center of the boat on either side of the keel gives access to the keel pin and access to pumping water out. With the boat level this is the lowest area and easy to vacuum out water.

Under the sliding galley is flotation material and you will be sucking water out for years! LOL! Some folks have indeed drilled drain holes in an attempt to dry/drain the water with some success.

Enjoy the new boat! The C22's are really very nice and well built boats. Be sure to check the keel pin plates from underneath for any severe rotting.

Sweet! Thanks Scott. I’ll put all this to use in a couple weeks. Taking a week off to start working on the boat. Should have it in the water at some point in June if all goes well. The keel and it’s hardwear are on the list, as is some fiberglass work and some bottom paint.
As for the water in the boat. Now that I know how to get it out, I’m asking my self how it got in there in the first place. What are the most common culprits for watet intrusion? Should probably look at them as well? Any thoughts guys?

Toe rails and stantions can leak. Portals can leak. Leaving the companion way boards out will leak. Keel pin and plates could leak.
So basically anything that created a hole on the glass might leak! LOL!

For me, I sail in salt water. I could literally taste the water ( don't swallow ) for salt or fresh. One of my C22's was salt. meaning the water likely came from underneath. It was the keel pin and brackets. Doh! Another one of my C22's had a leak of all things the running lights on the bow.Somebody in its past replaced the bow lights and sealed with plain old silicon which is not adequate for salt water. Every wave over the bow spewed water into the forward cubby and down into the bilge.

If you can not find the leak, dry suspect areas, and spread something like flour. you can then see what gets wet!

Also, keep in mind the flotation on starboard side under the slide galley. It may have been saturated at some point and you may have water simply flowing out of that over time.
