Getting her wet for the first time

Post by Jeff P »

I bought a C22 a little over a month ago. I’ve raised and lowered the mast while on the trailer. Replaced all of the running rigging. Tomorrow evening we are headed for Mercer WI for a 4 day weekend. I spent a good amount of time tonight strapping the mast down, running the outboard, and getting her ready for the 4 hour drive. There are a couple of larger lakes in the area that I am looking at. If anyone is familiar with the area and has any input on a decent body of water for launching and sailing the plan is to take her for a maiden voyage on Friday. Fingers crossed the weather looks okay as of now.

I'd go to Apostle Islands. then head for a day sail to Madeline Island, it is fun to walk around there. If you stay at the Legendary Waters Casino you will have plenty to do. I was there with the whole family 10 on the boat for three days and did not have enough time.

I think I’m going to wait on Superior. We aren’t far from Lake Minoqua. It’s a decent sized lake with a big paved boat ramp. My goal is the get it rigged and in the water so I can test everything out before we get into bigger water. Nice to see that you had the whole family sailing. I’ve got 2 teenagers 19 & 15. It’s hard to get them excited about anything. The younger one is along this weekend so maybe seeing the boat in action will peak his interest.
