Chrysler 26 swing cable tube water flow

Post by Erbardy »

I have a new to me chrysler 26 (1978). Everything was fine for two weeks and then I dragged the keel on the ground. Shook the keel trunk. A week later I had water in the cabin around the keel trunk. took it to a ship yard and they said water was overflowing over top the hose that follows the swing cable tube. they replaced it with a longer one that follows the cable all the way to the winch. They said that still when one moves around the cabin or when sailing and heeling, water will "burp" in. Any remedies for this? I read about putting a stopper on the top of the tube.

Strange thing is that this never happened prior to the keel hitting a ground. the shipyard said that there was no dammage.

Any advice is appreciated!

My swing keel cable is protected by a tube that goes up almost to the gear, ending with a funnel.

Sometimes there is water on the floor when I sail back to the club, but I don't know where it came from. I sail solo, so I don't see it coming in. I don't think it's from the swing keel cable.

I hope this helps
