I installed a boomkicker K0800 and a Garhauer boom vang today.
I gotta say that they are both top quality items.
The kicker didn't allow for much room to install the vang so I had a guy in town weld a piece of aluminum onto the kicker mast fitting to allow attachment. Works awesome.
If you are wondering why the boom sits so high the instructions say to install it this way so you can get full sail and have headroom at dock. Works really well. I like.
The tab was welded larger than needed so that I could adjust the size after. I will make it look pretty later.
Nicely done, when I get around to it I hope to have a similar set up on my c26... of both boom kicker and boom vang. Too my regret my c26 came with little rigging still onboard. If I run into the same space problem I'll know what to do... thanks. Sorry Adam and to the other members of this forum if my questions seem to rattle on, but being so new to all of this if I see something that to me seems a little out of the ordinary I'm curious as to why. Case in point...the base of your mast Adam did catch my eye and it may have been done by a P.O... but why would someone feel the need to add two shims under the toe hook of the mast footing?

I have the same vang and boom kicker setup on my C26. One word of caution, If you are ever in a heavy rain squall or storm be sure to secure the sail to the boom such that it will not collect water. Last summer my daughter and I were on our way back from Anclote Key off tarpon springs and got caught in a summer storm. It wasn't anything special, actually I reefed the main sail and raised the storm jib and kept on sailing (I love my Chrysler!) but the main where I had reefed it filled with water and the boom kicker began to sag and bounce with the added weight.
hp18carr,
The shims have always been there and I've wondered the same thing. My two cents is that the standing rigging were too long so someone raised the mast a little with shims...
You guess is as good as mine.
Thanks for your patients... sailboats of this age and no telling how many PO.s before us, slight if not major changes along the way are par for the course.

I have the same boom kicker and original Chrysler Vang works great and do not need the topping lift and I can slack the lazy jacks for the sun shade over the boom and biminy and if someone pulls down on the boom it will spring with the kicker so my topping lift is still on the boom.
