Shipping Costs - HELP!

Post by Windwalker »

Dale was kind enough to part out a C26 in south Florida and, HOORAY!, had a toe rail for me. We even agreed on the price! :D

HOWEVER, and this is were I need your help, the shipping costs from Florida to here in Spokane are almost $500! (this is the cheapest I could find, UPS wanted just under $1000!) If I was still on the east coast, I would drive down and pick it up, not an option way out here.

Any suggestions???

I have used uship in the past for oversize items. You list what you have, size, weight, and to/from locations and shippers will email you with a quote. You mainly get truck drivers with partial loads that will throw it on their truck.

windwalker,
Have you thought about cuttting it here and having it welded when you get it, I think Dale said you only need about a foot or so. I live near Dale and have bought some of his parts. I would think welding and cleaning the repair up can't be over 100.00 bucks ? just a thought. :D

I had a mast shipped from Fl to NC about the time gas was getting close to $4 per gallon. I picked it up at the Roadway shipping terminal. I believe it was around $190. Picking it up at the terminal saved a lot.

Found Transport!

Thanks to all!

Trev, that website was great. I found someone at half the cost! (Still more then the part cost!)

Dave, I had thought of that, and I could save $100 over the original quote. :?
Although I needed only a foot, about 5 feet of the rail was damaged, but usable. All in all, replacing the whole rail was my preferred choice.

Holiday, about right, I am going 3500 miles further. I know this since I just moved from NC two yeas ago. I moved the boat from Kerr Lake where it was damaged.

BTW; the boat was damaged in it's slip when a windstorm came through northern North Carolina. I had the boat secured with 4, 1/2" dock lines on each side (2 on the bow and two on the stern). The 4 lines on the windward side broke and the boat tried to roll onto the dock. A cleat caught the toe rail and pushed it up about 18", pulling about 8' of rail away from the boat. I calculated the boat had to roll 45 deg on bare poles with the keel down to create the damage. Quite a windstorm!
