Going to look at a C26

If I were to buy another one this is what I would look for ( I will try to remember them all)


EXTERIOR:
Soft deck spots
soft/cracking deck where mast is stepped
leaky windows
all rigging
cracks/worn holes at mast spreaders
destroyed gel coat by tiller
soft cockpit floor (jump a little)

INTERIOR:
look for signs of water streaks on walls, indicating leaking
punch the roof in the aft berth to test for rotten cockpit floor. (give a good punch)

look under carpet to see if things are rotting
jump on galley floor and see how much flex there is - rotting floor
strongly tap keel housing (under galley table) for soft spots.
take a flash light and look into sump for water - infamous for collecting water and rotting stuff.
check for cracks under the corner of the head where mast pressure is directed.

Generally from what I have seen from ripping my entire boat apart and from reading other posts, the C26 has a bullet proof glass hull. Its the extras that were added that kind of fell apart. So unless the boat has been into an accident and not taken care of there really is only elbow grease required for fixing stuff like rotten wood floors what not.

Well thats some of the things I would look at but I know I have missed some.

If it is a late model with the anchor locker in the bow, look close at the bulkhead between the vberth and the anchor locker. There is a "false" bulkhead on the vberth side, so check it from the anchor locker.

Keel Brackets are different from the C22, the pin sits in a split "shoe" that is external, easy to see if there is any deterioration. You can see it in this pic.

I'll add, cracks in the motor mount. Perhaps not a deal breaker, but it's a bargaining chip.

Overall these are good, strong boats.
