"I assume this is a bad thing"...nah, you can just assume its a C26 thing. When I got EE the rigging was loose,and the more I tuned the less changed - finally realized as I tightened the rig the screws in the banquette back were pulling out and the deck was hogging up.

Windward's site has some upgrade pics I believe.

There should be wood below the banquet tops, my first fix for the problem was long thin lag bolts. That has held fine for me, but EE doesn't get sailed hard ever either.

You could just add some more bracing from the chain plates down to the structure if you don't want to go thru the hull.

E.E. is right this is one project that every c26 owner must face to some degree. I too will be reworking mine as well, but my plans at this point are still only in my head (no through hull however) if my plans pan out... bolts will be used to secure the footing. Pics will be coming, but I can't say when.

Thanks, guys! I feel better now. I will just try to reinforce the existing method of bracing. I assume I could rtemporarily remove the chest of drawers and the bulkhead for the head to access the underside of the banquette backs.

I really want to get the clean out of the inside done and then install the new electrical so that I can be ready to sail this late April. I don't want to spend the warm season on shore with projects when there is sailing to do!

You may find that the chest and the bulkhead on the starboard are fused together, EE's was - the bulkhead was stapled to the chest and THEN the laminate was glued on the bukhead resulting in the staple heads being under the laminate. It will come out as one piece tho.

The head bulkhead actually has what little mast step exists built into its corner (that's the square bit just inside the door to your left).

Not sure I'd want to remove either bulkhead with the mast up, although the starboard one isn't as much weight bearing as the port one is...

You can probably just add extra bracing/attachment points with all in place.

what are you guys using to remove the foam under the carpet/fabric onthe cabin sides... also it leaves a very rough fiberglass surface... are you just painting over it is there a ez way to smooth it.. ( wouldn't want to sand it...

also what color /type paint are you guys using below... I want to recolor my OEM "almond" gelcoat interior but worried that too bright white might make it all look like a public restroom .. need the right shade of white.. might do Home Depot "wainscotting" panels sideways to give a wood slat "ceiling" effect... or do a proper wood slat ceiling on the cabin sides...

I couldn't find a shade of white that worked for me, all were too bright or too dirty - so I figured out a match to the original.

I hope to do a good final clean out this weekend and then in a future weekend I am planning to paint the ceilings and walls using EE's brew. This will get me in great shape for sailing. I figure I can do detail trim next winter.

Great point about the mast being up while taking out a bulk head! While I do plan on dropping the mast this weekend as well, I could see not thinking about that aspect while working on an in-cabin project. That could have lead to some new projects/repairs
