Sail trim books
Sail trim books
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for some good literature on sail trim?
I was looking at Don Guillette's books on sail trim and was wondering if anyone has read those?
http://www.sailtrimproducts.com/sail_tr ... guide.html
Thanks,
Adam

This one from Ivar Dedekam is quite good:

Ken Textor's New Book of Sail Trim is not bad:

The best book I have found is called "illustrated sail & rig tuning" by Ivar Dedekam, I think it's available from www.wileynautical.com , I picked it up on amazon for next to Nothing, there are also seamanship and navigation books in the same series. There are tons of illustrations and it's real easy to understand..

My book is not on Sail Trimming. More of a Sailing manual, rules of the road, sailboat owners type manual.
Chapman's "The Boaters Handbook" Fourth Revised Edition.
I also have one done by the US Coast Guard. This could be a good book but I find myself waking up about 3 hours after I started reading the book. It does not fail, I've never gotten past 3 pages and I'm out. Sure fire cure for insomnia.
Thanks
Alan

Re: Sail trim books
This is an old post, but if anyone is still looking for help on sail trim check out "Sailaway" https://sailaway.world/ . It is about $15.00 I think converts from Euro. The best thing is it tells you what you need to do to make the sails the most efficient. It will also do it for you and explain what it did. It has a few different boat for you to play with. From the basic to a full blown ocean cruiser. I have been using it for a while and find it sorta relaxing. It uses real wind/weather, currents and time of day. I was shocked the first time I sailed from Port Arthur to Tampa, 7 days!
