New 1976 Chrysler 22 Owner
New 1976 Chrysler 22 Owner
Hello Everyone, I have just purchased a 1976 Chrysler 22. I will included a link to my Google photo album once I determine the correct manner. I have the link, but it seems too long. She will be sailing out of Sanford, Florida. I welcome all input, as she is in need of much TLC. My initial concern is the mast. The original mast is gone and I was given a replacement mast that seems to be from a larger boat. Should I be too concerned with it's weight? Otherwise it seems strong with heavy duty rigging. Thx for your input.

Welcome! Once you get the pic posting mastered, try to include a detailed photo of the mast and we might be able to identify it. The OEM mast for the 22 is quite a beastly extrusion, with heavy rigging to accompany it, so even if it is a direct replacement, that could be a little confusing.

As I read the spec. section at the Chrysler site mast is 26'6"and in the photo it appears to be right comparing to boat size also the mast head is different than my 26 the one thing I would recommend flipping mast and to end and sail track toward coach top before attempting to step mast. I also put a link to the Chrysler site.

Hi Ron, welcome to the crew!
If I remember correctly there was the 26'6" mast which was on most of the C-22's and a few had a 29'6" mast. From looking at your photo I agree you mast looks like a real good replacement I would be happy with if I did not have my OEM one.
I don't see any spreaders on your mast though. They should be easy enough to add them though. My spreaders are not OEM and clearly have been added do to some mishap prior tp my ownership.
Here's the photo's I have of my spreaders.
Really basic as you can see.
Thanks
Alan

Some parts you'll notice are the window's, spreaders, and some shots of the mast also... Ya the 22 is a bit beefy as far as rigging etc, but nice to have in a blow!
Oh and yes we like to see picts, lots of them!

Wow Bill,
I'd never seen these photo's of your boats restoration. I find myself quite envious and a tad jealous. Your boat clearly started off in worse condition then mine. Now that you've done it, my boat looks, well a bit shabby. I will claim "Shabby Sheik" to save face though.
Seriously nice job there!
Thanks

Bill, that's a wonderful job! After watching the slide show, I am am beginning to doubt that Believer will splash this season.
A question for you. I loved the varnished plank reinforcement of where your keel winch is hung. Have you found it to be at all slippery going in and out of the cabin?
