New Mainsail Video

Post by Bhacurly »

Well sorry no picts yet...

My camera slid across the cushion and onto the cockpit floor and jammed the shutter so the picts I was taking were mostly black!

I was going to list all the details of the sail and will if I find my itimized receipt ...

But it is Loose footed for the reasons already discussed... and && saved

I didn't go with full battens because it's a high aspect sail, and unless racing wouldn't improve performance that much that I'd notice anyway, $$ saved

It is 6.5 oz Dacron, cut so it's relatively flat. With the loose foot I can deepen it in light air and it's stronger in heavy air.

Carbon Fiber headboard, reinforced in the tack and clew of coarse, strong slides, and that leech tightening line is a heavier than normal size also.

I have a single, DEEP reef, almost a foot highter than before. Rationale for this was it was a flatter cut, loose foot that I will be better able to control in stronger winds. My rigger felt I would reef less often than with my old main, and if I really want the second reef he could put one in later, but the deep reef would be good in strong winds, and yes he knew I was out last year in 70 mph gusts.

I'm still adjusting my tack for best trim and in the video you can see it's loose above the gooseneck, well I forgot it was taller than my old main a bit and it was run up all the way to the top of the mast, I needed to bring the boom down some at the gooseneck, when I did the next time out, well I have two bumps on my noggin from the boom being about 6 inches lower than I'm used too...

Almost forgot, here's the link to the video:

Nice video! I have to rewatch it on another machine, sound dead on mine, but really enjoyed the video.

Too new at this to comment on the sail, but that sure was a pretty day! Awesome scenery!

Great video Billy!

Love it but I'm a tad confused?!?!?!?
What is that blue stuff covering the grey skys?

There are old folk stories going around here of a round orb in the sky that could warm the skin and even change the color of people. Did you see it? Could you confirm its existance?

What a beauty! I would really like to know more about the sail if possible (price, etc). Do you think he would want to make another just like it, and could he ship it down to da' bayou? Thanks for any info.

I have to agree with Scott as we had that blue covering the clouds too for the last 2 days and it has effect on people.

It's true! I saw it and it burns the skin, makes you sweat, wanna take a nap, makes the eyeballs squint...

Was glad to wake up yesterday to 30 mph winds and rain!

John I'll drop him a line and ask him, but don't think shipping would be an issue. Gonna ask the wife about the itemized bill and let ya know there also... she has a uterus and can find anything!
