Original Chrysler cove stripe font

Post by trev »

At some point in time someone thought it would be fun to paint the coveline and waterline black using cheap brush on paint. I decided it was time for this paint to go, so with a light duty graffiti remover, a paint scraper, and lots of hope that the original blue was in good condition, so far so good, one side of the boat is finished; the other side is half done.

I can see the original Chrysler in the faded gel coat so I can figure out the length, height and spacing. Does anyone know what the original font was?
Thanks.

Sorry I don't have an appropriate font, but here's a good picture:

Here is a partial photo I fixed up in Photoshop. Hopefully its enough to make out the font.

Looks like the C26 had a little fancier font.

Trev, another question - are you planning on having a graphics shop make you one ?

If so you should be able to get enough contrast to make a neat hand tracing on paper - then you can scan that in, color it in photoshop, and send it to the shop..they can clean it up if needed..

I have a thread about making your own graphics as well..

I'm going to do the graphics and a friend with a small vinyl cutter is going to cut it out for me.

Thanks for the link, I had seen that before but completely forgot about it.

My 77 26 has the block style lettering above the cove stripe, like the 77 -22. Looks like the script might be related to the year built?

I removed the origional Chrysler from the cove stripe to place my boat name in that location.
I did notice that there seemed to be a slite indent around the edges of the old letters in the gell coat, you may be able to do a pencil rubbing to get the letter style.

You can go to a Zen Master or you can go Sailing, either way you end up in about the same place..... a Happy Place
