Trailering . . . . . .

Post by CaptainScott »

Trailering.

Just a reminder to all since most of us trailer our boats at one time or another.

Diane and I were southbound on I 5 last Friday. A very unusual backup was slowing us. Well, it seems a fine fellow and his big truck was towing a trailer sporting two jet ski's or wave jammers or whatever they are called now. The fellow decided to make a last minute attempt to exit to the rest area. Unfortunately he was towing to fast. His trailer did not make the exit. The street signs and a light pole all gone. Trailer was twisted and between the offramp and freeway. Both jet ski's hand tumbled and rolled quite a bit further down the median. YIKES! What a bad way to start Memorial weekend.

Remember folks,
Trailer safely. There is no need to go fast. Just because a truck CAN pull at a high rate of speed does not mean you SHOULD!

Hope you all had a great weekend! We did!

Absolutely! No hurry with these Chrysler's in tow! I wouldn't even want to imagine one of our little babies sailing down the highway on their own  My first trip home cost a brick mailbox and a car bumper in a backup operation. Big side mirrors and slow, calculated maneuvers now. I'm in no hurry on land or sea and if I prompt a bird to fly from some impatient driver from behind.... be that what it be!

No sailing last weekend at Hubbard Lake but I did enjoy a nice visit and shoot some breeze with Bob (Chrysler20%26) when I went through Pinconning on the way up. Nice C-20 of the gold variety!

I want a boat that drinks 6, eats 4, and sleeps 2.

Check the coupling between the tow vehicle and the trailer also.
I saw a story last week of the fisherman that had his trailer become disconected from his SUV. I'm guessing he did not have any tongue weight, since the trailer came in through the rear window, exiting with the coupling punching a hole in the front windsheild  The boat went over the top of the SUV, caving in the roof and landing on the road infront of the SUV   It was amazing no one was hurt.

As much as I love the power my 6.7 Cumins diesel provides I still try to keep my Max speed below 65 in the neighborhood.
