Just purchased a pretty little boat, a Pirateer 13 ft daysailer. Trying to figure out riggin, etc in the back yard, already seeing I need to "make" time for boating. Elsewhere siomebody brought up using a water ballast for this boat, but to me that seem doubtful. Anyone heard of this?
I'm also wondering how common it is to tip one of these, i see lots of things about how easy this boat is to right back up, so does that mean it's extra tippy?
Anyway, it's a pretty little boat, looking forward to getting her wet, the older couple I bought it from said it hasn't been in water for a few years and they were happy to see it go to a guy with some younger kids to help me enjoy it.

Welcome aboard Curt!
We have a copy of the original owners manual on our main page for that boat along with some specifications. The manual with help you with how to rig her!
Go here and follow the tabs!

While I've never sailied one I'm pretty sure there is no water ballast in that boat. I would not try and use it either. Righting a 13' sailboat is pretty easy however I recommend you practice it on calm days maybe even get a knowledgable sailor to help you. It is a great feeling to know that if you do manage to dump her that you can recover. Righting it is technically not hard but it not something you want to learn in an emergency.
Again, WELCOME!

Thanks Scott. I already printed out the manual for this boat, from your site, so thanks for that too! In looking her over, there is no place to put a water ballast, and the boat is just too small to have anything like that, it only has a 550 lbs weight limit as is, so putting water in for ballast seems silly, not sure where that guy got that idea.
Thanks for maintaining the site, glad to know it's here for a resource.

No problem!
I always mention "Emergency Exit" too. He reallys does a lot on the site in the background with the technical stuff.
I checked your profile and you did not mention where you are at.
If you ad a city state there you might find other Chrysler sailors near by that can help or share the fun!
If you are near Everett Wa I'd be happy to take you in your Pirateer and help you flip it and right it.

I'll fix the profile thing, good call. I'm in Cadillac Michigan, little town about 90 mi north of Grand Rapids. We have some pretty little lakes up here, not to mention the Great Lakes themselves. But with this boat I'm thinking I'll stay out of the big lakes. Thanks for the offer to help, but I figure I'm a couple thousand miles from you.
