Log Book Software

Post by cummings »

I'm thinking about writing software to log sailing info for my usage. If you had your dream software for that purpose, what would you want it to do?

Right now I'm just doing this to keep my programming from rusting too much, not to sell it. If I got it done, I'd give the software to whoever wanted to use it. It'd be for the iPad, maybe iPhone because that is where my skill set in programming is.

Cool idea! I never take the time to make a proper log entry.
My dream sailing log software would be voice recognition with auto data collection for wind speed and direction, GPS location, boat speed and heading.
Android would be nice since I'm not a Apple person, but I understand.

I'd like a smart maintenance log.

Something I can set reminders. For example, I log ships hours and after a configurable amount of runtime, I get a reminder to change oil, check impellers, etc.

Basically nanny software that reminds me to change zincs, check filters, change oil, etc.

Something I can define a vehicle i.e. Boat, certain rules, and be reminded.
Expand it to cars, motorcycles, etc and I'm in!

Heck, get it to remind me to change strings on my guitar . . . . .
