C22 haylard spec question
C22 haylard spec question
So for the wire to rope haylard main and jib chrysler used 3/8. In an effort to sail this year the 3/8lines need replaced. Does anyone know the working load on those ropes? As a temp I was looking at home depot and they have poly 3/8 marine line not dock line and the working load limit is 350lbs will this support the main and jib haylards? Lake sailing only 15 knot max wind speed. If that matters. Any help is appreciated.
Re: C22 haylard spec question
you don't want poly (for a number of reason). Halyards need to use line that doesn't stretch (poly does). The correct line isn't cheap, but IMO you'll regret using a cheap substitute.
Re: C22 haylard spec question
Hummm.....new England ropes sta-set x is all poly. Every haylard line I look at is poly double braid. Am I missing something? Not being sarcastic at all.
Re: C22 haylard spec question
Is "Poly" polypropylene or polyester? I'm speaking of polypropylene. https://www.westmarine.com/WestAdvisor/ ... ng-Rigging
Re: C22 haylard spec question
No polyester sorry forgot polypropelyne is also used for rope. The issue I'm running into is the safe operating weight. I don't see how a haylard would need more than 350lbs of work limit but...newengland is supposedly 1300lbs. That's the issue I run into. Am I still safe operating on 350 vs sta set
Re: C22 haylard spec question
OK. Well, in light/moderate winds maybe. It'll be "fun" if it breaks.
