I'm in process of restoring a 1977 C22 and removed the rudder shaft and bushing due to excessive play. I was going to replace the old bushing with the thru hull style, but noticed that this boat has the mushroom shaped recess and matching bushing. Different than what I expected. My plan is to insert another bushing (PVC?) into the existing opening so that the rudder shaft will fit tightly into the new bushing. 2 questions, will a PVC bushing be durable enough and if water gets between the rudder shaft and the bushing, will the hose just fill with water? Hope I'm not asking a stupid question.
Thanks
C22 rudder shaft and bushings

Good Evening, that link doesn't work anymore, would you happen to have any other ideas?
