extra winch

Post by javelin »

The previous owner installed a winch on the mast, starboard side just below the boom. What did he use it for ? Some kind of sail ?. Other than for a bosom chair, I've never used it. Any suggestions as to its purpose ?

Might have used it on either halyard, I wouldn't mind having one for the main on EE.

EE is right on the money.
The winch on the mast is for the main halyard.

FYI, I would never use a mast winch to raise my fat arse up the mast.
I use a turning block at the base of the mast and use the largest winches on the boat. On destiny that is the Jib/Genoa winches.

Ah, but there is already a winch on the starboard just beside the main hatch so I suspect that winch might have been for a spinnaker ??

I would guess no on the spinnaker. Every spinnaker I raise is generally in a hurry! Get'er up! LOL! A winch is to slow!

On my 40'er my spinnaker is in a sock so no hurry and I use no winch there either. Just pull er up! When it is time to let 'er fly, I pull the sock line by hand!

I most certainly could be wrong though!

I know nothing and I can prove it!!!!!
