Affordable alternative for plastic marine lumber

I've looked at Marine catalogs and have been shocked at the amount of money they get for plastic "lumber".

I read a woodworking magazine this past weekend where a guy buys plastic cutting boards for a $1 or 2 at the discunt store and then uses them to make jigs, etc. He said they cut and machine just like wood.

Earlier this year I would have preferred to use plastic wood to reinforce inside the cabin where the winches and other items are bolted to the deck. I thought if I got thick enough material that I could countersink for the bolt and nut. The problem was the plastic marine lumber was prohibitively expensive.

This weekend I am going to head off to the local discount store and see if there are some cutting boards that I can use for boat lumber.

Handy tough stuff!

I used a cutting board to make my spreader sail protectors instead of the lil wheels they sell at WM or other places.

I also used it to make new sliders for the galley feet...
