Overhaul... cracked tiller head

Pandora's tiller head is cracked, sorry for the out of focus pic... cheap cam. It appears not to be too deep, but a broken tiller head in the middle of the lake is something I would like to avoid. Is there any type of fix on this type metal (aluminum or aluminum alloy) I'm not really sure which it is? Could just filling the crack with a type of epoxy or liquid nail do the trick, or should I just have a shop fabricate a new one?

I'd take that to a shop and see if they could weld it. A guy I was in class with last quarter was a welder befroe getting laid off and he said he could weld stuff like this in a quick minute. I thought it was more complicated but he said no it was easy.

Now I've never welded aluminum but I've see the end product done by skilled hands. I would think it would be good as new. Maybe even file off the bead when there done for the nice clean look.

I wont to thank for all the photos you have posted. An yes to haveing it wilded, or may be some one has an extra from a parts boat. I have a mast step finger to weld for sailbob2, my sister in law has a welder that welds aluminum. She is now in Fl. for the winter, if I can set up the welder, an can do the job for sailbob2. I will let you know, then I wood be happy to weild yours.

I had to deal with the same problem on Catch 22. I had a neighbor that does welding on aircraft weld it up for me and it has worked like a charm. Much less expensive than having one made or trying to find a new one, they are particularly proud of new ones.
