I have a C22 that I just got and I noticed the the spreader brackets have a few rivets that were pulled out. Is there a good way to repair this? I'm worried that the holes are now oversized and another rivit of the same size wouldnt hold?

In addition to that problem the spreaders are very loose on the brackets?

Have you considered stepping up the size of the rivets?

Also the spreader strength is in being perpendicular to the mast. Here is not a lot of lateral tension on it. As long as it is secure I would think you are fine.

Yes I have thought about bigger rivets, but I also was concerned about the movement, I have one stabilizer that has a rubber piece on the end ( I assume for chaffing ?) and the other side doesnt have one?

Also on the subject of spreaders, what do you use to keep the stays on the spreaders? Do I wire them there somehow?

Yes, the rubber boots are to protect your sails from chaff. You could always go with baggy wrinkles if you don't like the boots!

The boots do not offer much at all if any in the way of support other than to keep your spreaders from sliding up and down the shrouds.

Forgive me but I have to . . . A stay is runing for or aft. You have a forestay and an aft stay. The spreaders hold the shrouds on place! Shrouds are on the port and starboard of your boat. Sorry, I had to.


Since boths masts are currently up I can not get an exact look but if memory serves me, There is some type of loop at outboard end of the spreader. The shroud simply goes through this loop. It is NOT clamped tightly to the shroud. Sometimes you may have to push your spreader up with a broom or such once the mast has been raised. Just make sure it is perpendicular to the mast and parallel to the ground or boat. It will stay in place!

I have a pair of RC sloops that are 5 feet tall. I made clips with labels to clip on the boats and their respective parts! I use them to teach terms. Works much better than a picture! LOL!

I actually appreciate that. I'm picking up the proper terms as fast as I can .
