Painting

The hull of our C-22 is badly oxidized. The past two seasons we've used restoral and buffing to freshen it up, but after just a few weeks on the morring the oxizdation comes back.
So hubby is considering painting. We have limited time . The weather here has not been cooperating and we have not started our launch prep yet. We are not invested in a perfect finish and don't want to spend a ton of money. Hubby says he would be happy with a 10 foot finish, ie., as long as it looks good from about 10 feeet away. I've looked into some of the one step processes. We would be applying with roller and brush. ANyone have any helpful advice?
As always, thanks!

I have painted both a 22 and a 26 ( hull and topsides ) I generally like the job and it is easy to do. Tape anything you don't want the paint on, rather than remove fittings as this can involve a great deal of repair. Buy interlux boat paint ( about $45. Canadian ) and what is called a thinner to increase drying time ( I think it is called 222 but the dealer will know ). Here is how to paint. Sand the old coat as you would any repaint job. Just lightly to roughin the surface a bit. Use a roller on the hull. Roll about 3 feet with the paint then lightly brush with a sponge paint brush. Sort of feathering the paint. Keep doing this for the whole surface. The paint will dry within a few hours. The topsides cannot generally be rolled because there are so many obstacles. So use a good quality paint brush and again " feather " with a foam brush. These are the instructions from interlux and I saw a video of this method in the shop. Looks good and lasts for at least 6 years.

My hull on my C-26 was that way also and I used marine rubbing compound and wax Brought back the shine then I used a good marine wax
altogether it took me 2 weeks with working at my job full time but she is in the water and looks great I still have to do decks and cabin.

Javelin,
Did you use Interlux Brightsides or Toplac?

Great thread Fran!
I am in the same boat ( a c-26 actaully!) and the weekend weather has been so bad for us and I really need to launch as the boatyard will start charging me daily SUMMER storage if I hang around after the 15th so I go to move asap and I will just buff the topsides for this season and then try and pain the deck on the water...will mask with tape .. removing everything is such a big job and as pointed out starts you down a repair road you I might never recover from... was looking into painiting the hull (mine is white - so not too bad) but the prep work can be intimidating but I am encouraged by the this thread! Just don't want to make her look worse!

I used interlux brightsides ( the actual colour was blue white which is the whitest white you can get)

I awlgriped my entire boat. You do not need to spray it you can roll and tip is like described above and get an mirror like finish. It is actually pretty easy to do. Well the painting part is easy. There is alot of prep work, the paint is real thin so you have to have a SMOOTH boat before you begin. If you can see a ding before you paint it will be there after you are done.
There is a thread here someplace where I talk documented my paint job.
