What is the best material to use when making bridles for raising the mast? I have the dimensions just trying to decide what to use.

FWIW, I used 1/4 inch, plastic covered, steel braid

and it worked fine. I looped the ends pretty wide, and didn't
use the eyelets.

I used 1" tubular webbing with carabiners as hardware. I feel like stainless cable from home depot would be much more adjustable to get the dimensions perfect though.

I use the 1/8 stainless cabel from home depot

I use chain with quick links at the ends. It dosent kink or bind, wont stretch, can be easily adjusted and stores in a canvas bag with grommet holes for each quick link. I labeled the holes so when I am ready to use it I place it at the base of the mast and connect the links to their appropriate spots. No muss, No fuss!

I used chain too with shackles at the top and ratchet straps works great
only thing better would be an elect. windlass.

I have not made my bridle yet, but the makeshift one I used to initially raise my mast was made of some spare rope.
However, my plan is to use low stretch dyneema or vectran for the entire assembly. The bridle will actually be formed when the two lines cross(using a double figure eight knot) on thier way up to the mast and the jin pole from the toe rail, with snap shackles on all four ends.

This should make for a easy to store assembly that won't scratch the boat. 3mm Vectran can support 1900lbs and only costs $.76ft at West Marine.

BTW, on a tangent, I just got myself some Sperry Figawi shoes for only $25 though a website called shoesontheweb.com. I love my Sperrys, they stick to the deck so well! (I am not affiliated with Sperry, or shoesontheweb, just thought I would pass along a good deal, because they are usully $94)
