I want to make some battens for my sail. Anyone know of any material that would work that I can readily find at a hardware store?

Thanks
Nick

I used thin plastic "lattice strips". Cut and shaved them a bit to fit.

I purchased a set for my Man O War for about $30. at Super Sailmakers in Ft Lauderdale:

At least I knew I had the right material/stiffness.

I blew a batten of the pocket during a sail back in 2007, so when I order supplies to fix the sail from Sailrite.com, I purchase a new one. I had to cut it to fit, but the Dremel tool with the fiberglass wheel got it down to size in no time.

I ripped some maple (long grain), but I like the thin plastic lattice strips idea better.
