Paul,

I have a 1975 C-22 with a rectangular boom. It is 3 1/2" x 1 1/4". The over-all length is 8' 6" that does not include the goose neck that attaches to the mast. The distance from the mast end to the boom vang fitting is 3'.

I just pulled my boat so it is sitting on a trailer in my yard waiting to be pulled to the Florida Keys over Christmas break. If you need any other dimensions let me know.

Thanks to you both. I'll probably end up with an aluminum oval rather than the rectangular - just easier to find. The dimensions help greatly!!! Thanks again.

Guy,

thePartydog found this listing and put it in the for sale section.

http://pensacola.craigslist.org/boa/1463463166.html

The ad states there is a boom for sale may be worth checking out.

I just e-mailed him... he sold the boom.

But i am going to make one out of cedar. i picked up a router bit to cut the slot for the sail. also, glen-L marine has a goose neck for about 35 bucks the will fit a wood boom to an metal mast.

this might be my best option....

thanks so much for the tip

Before you route the sail for your ceder boom, consider using the sail loose footed.

I have converted Lady Jo to a losse footed main and like it a lot.

Unfortunately I do not have one of the 22.

here is a shot of a Catalina with a loose footed main.
See how the main sail does not slide into a track on the boom but floats leeward of the boom?

Alright Scott, your going to have to give up some more details on how you did this . I spend almost as much time sliding the main into the slot as I do stepping the mast.
