Mast raising Bridle

Post by mariner »

Not sure where I got this from, but my C22 came with a bridal made up close to this with crimped ends... It works well (this may have been with my original papers, I was organizing files on the computer and found it), someday I will measure out the rest of the set up and have it made in cable to length with shakles to speed set up. but anyway... so for what its worth here you go.

That is a great document to have! Very nice and thanks for posting!
I have made a set of bridles myself and they work perfectly!

I can step the mast on Lady Jo all by myself! I have a link in my signature showing and describing using this bridle method. The last photo is a video if you click it you can see me lowering and raising the mast alone!

One thing I'm considering is making a seperate Gin pole instead of using the boom. I can rig a gin pole up with seperate lines to allow quicker stepping of the mast. The gin pole can be shackled to the toe rails for storage. Well, that is my thought anyway! LOL!

We'll see.

I agree with the gin pole, im going to make one myself, just a pain in the ars with all of the stuff rattling around etc on the boom.

Hah, what do you know, I just went out and measured mine out of curiosity and they are as close as you could get with 1/4 " chain.

Gin pole is the way to go alright, I keep my boom vang attached to my boom and it saves the trouble of having to take it on and off. I leave the support lines on the gin pole to save a little time too.

Hey I have that very cable in the drawing. It's rather rusty but it is the spitting image of the drawing. Thought it might have been the bridle. Didn't use it when I dropped the mast and then put it back up when I got the boat. Bet that would have made it a lot easier.

Thanks
Alan

Hey Alan.
From the descriptions of your mast set up, the bridles will not help you. You'll need to get rid of the base with the post and maybe upgrade to a hinge! This winter would be ideal!!!

Come visit Billy!
