I want to purchase a simple electronic depth gauge and have some ideas .
Anyone have one that is wireless and where did you put the transducer?

Hawkeye seems to be the best reviewed that I've seen. Have not seen a wireless one. They do have some that epoxy to the inside of the hull and read throught it. Of course the ones that mount to the transom. Most of them are less than $120 for a very good sounder. I was particularly lucky in this dept. because the po had a thru-hull knot meter, all I had to do is replace the trancducer and wire the new unit up.

I bought a simple fish finder from west marine last year I believe for under 90 bucks.

Works great for my needs. It transmits through the hull. All you need is a no air between the transducer and the fiberglass.

I think it was Billy that had a slick and simple mounting process that I'll copy this year!

My through hull Humingbird works great... not wireless though

bought a Hummingbird for $99.00 and wires go under head and setee

I use my keel, that's my deep finder. If I get stuck, I raise it, and if I get really stuck, I jump and push the boat back to where I came from

I am seeking advice;

I have the following choices;

In hull depth transducer -- WHERE DO YOU MOUNT THIS on the C 26

Transom mount knot/depth/temp transducer -- how is this mounted w/o drilling new holes into the transom ( what glue would you use and how would you wire it out the back

thru hull ( what I have now but it would need some sort of big hydrodynamic fairing block....

Gus, I have used the same method. Works OK with a sand bottom but I don't think I would like the sound on rocks .

I picked up a uniden at the Minneapolis boat show last week for $80 with a through the hull transducer from Marinegeneral.com. they still may have some.

Just my 2 cents I do not like the transducer aft of the keel because by the time you see it the keel already hit. I am mounting mine in front of keel at rear of v berth forward of head as close to center as I can.

lecker -- how will you get under the cabin pan to attach the thru hull tranponder directly to the hull in that area...

I wasn't too concerned with the transom mount ( other than it is pretty ugly not very ship shape set-up ... figuring at any speed I would hit something that close in anyway.... it was more to determine the trend that I am runninginto shallows and then the alarm would go off before I would hit anything...

I have an access port in the floor with a screw in cover above the old through hull..
