You need to remove the lower body section from the head assembly and the impellor is right there.
Not a hard job if you can get the motor halfs seperated.

I did my 7.5hp a couple of weeks ago. Mine is an early 80's BF75. Assuming yours is a BF5, it should be the same. First you must remove the bolt that holds down the ignition module so that you can place it to the side, this give you access to the shifter linkage, which must be disconnected. The module is right inter the shift lever; it's basically an aluminum heat sink with fins. Remove the bolt that goes down through the top. Then you must remove the clip and retaining pin that connect the shift linkage to the shift lever. During disassembly, and especially during re-assembly BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP THE CLIP OR PIN DOWN INTO THE ENGINE. If it happens during re-assembly, you will have to take the motor back apart. Voice of experience

. I have heard of some people tethering the clip and pin with a piece of dental floss or fishing line to prevent this. You then must unscrew the upper linkage shaft from the lower shaft by unscrewing it from above. You must be sure to count the number of turns so the shifting assembly is still aligned properly after re-assembly. You should then be able to remove the 5 bolts from the bottom of the lower unit and lower the whole assembly from the rest of the engine. The impellor resides inside if the bell shaped cover where the drive shaft plugs into the lower unit. Simply remove that cover and you can replace the impellor. While you're in there, you might want to remove the small cover that is aft of the impellor and pour a little water through there to make sure it flows out of the small intake screen. This assures you that the intake isn't blocked. Assembly is the reverse of dissassembly. I have done this on other makes of outboards and the Honda was the most difficult one I've done, but it is doable. Good luck!

I just did my 7.5 as well e few months ago and it was fairly easy once you understand you have to take the shift linkage apart. AS noted be careful not to loose the pin. Also note the direction of the impeller fins and be sure all loose or broken pieces have been cleared of the water passages.
thank you
