C-26 Ladder Removal

Has anyone taken the ladder off their C-26?

We're getting ready to paint and I thought removing the ladder would be a trivial task. After fighting with some long screws with fiberglassed threads we found out at least 4 of the nuts are hidden behind a fiberglass flange at the top of the "engine compartment".

At this point I think we'll leave it on and try to paint around it.

I removed both my ladder and engine mount, as I recall my ladder had no hidden nuts, but they were all a pain to get to... the bottom four right side could only be removed by climbing all the way into the back of the boat. Will install backing plates where I can on reinstallation. The engine mount has hidden nuts along the bottom and a few regular screws on top center. If you are able you can remove the bit of fiberglass holding the nuts, I plan to do this on the hidden ones on the engine mount and run a backing plate along the bottom.

Interesting. We'll have another look tonight, but I'm pretty sure our top 4 nuts are behind a flange. We got the bottom 8 loose with minimal problems, although due to fiberglassed threads I'll probably cut a couple off.

Backing plates are a good idea, I was just going to use fender washers.
