Has anybody here ever taken the top deck off of an LS-16? Mine has plywood "bulkheads" just aft of the mast and just forward of the well hatch. They are there to support the fiberglass as it reaches across the boat at those points. They are in terrible shape. I thought that perhaps this fall, after the season is over, that I might just pull the top deck and replace them with some nice marine grade plywood.

I'm guessing here, but I think you would remove the rub rail. Beneath that there should be a LOT of little screws or nuts and bolts holding the top half to the bottom half. Take them out and carefully lift the top off. Use the old pieces as patterns for the new pieces and install. Reverse to reassemble. Right?

Not to be a pessimist but it is probably caulked together with "you ain't gettin' me apart without destroyin' the boat" caulk.......

My sunfish is epoxied together and can't be separated without tearing the thing up. I had to put round access holes in my Sunfish to do some needed deck repair work. I use the forward one to put things in like water and food, wallet and keys. It has a water tight screw on lid with a recessed vinyl bag.

Same with my Coronado C15. All sealed together.
