This last weekends sail was to meet a couple from Texas that has been cruising for a year now. Charlie and Laura Started with plans on just sailing to the Bahamas on thier 1961 Rhodes Meridian 25 and has been an insperation to alot of us on Sailfar.net when it comes to sailing small boats long distances.

We started Friday afternoon for the 9nm sail to Oriental taking the longway to enjoy the sailing Image
I have this thing about sunsets on the water.

We got to the mooring fields just after dark but easily found Tehani

Charlie, Laura , a family of 4 that live on their Alberg 30 and another couple Carla and Gram a long time boat designer from the Sailfar site spent the day watching the Dragon races that help cancer survivors
Can be read athttp://www.towndock.net/
Enjoyed a great lunch swaping sailing stories and checkingout each others boats, with intrest to see what it takes to live on a small boat for a yr and more.
Fireworks brought the day to end.

I spent the next morning getting the new to us sails on Shaken Knot Stirred

One was bought of Ebay the other from the consignment shop in Oriental and just ended up being a match set :D

So after the sails were on we just had to go out and play, what a difference it seems to be having crisp sails.

All & All what a great weekend and even learned alot from Charlie who has built a number of boats in the past years.

good times Mario!!

Hard to believe you found matching sails like that! I poked around quite a while looking for sails and finally surrendered my money to a sailmaker!

Crisp new sails do make a huge difference!

Sounds like a great weekend. I got the repaired rudder installed and did a quiet overnight and some day sailing to test it... a little stiff in the bearings, but seems like a keeper for now.

Does Paul have a vacant slip? I was thinking of leaving Windward in Oriental the last week of Sept (after I launch but before my trip starts), but may give him a call and see about keeping her in Paradise.

I'll drop you a line when/if my plans are firmer for the coast. Still lots to do on the boat. In general still planning to arrive late Fri Oct 1, provision and head out Saturday towards Manteo, wind up in Ocracoke Wed or Thu, then head out if Wx is decent, either to CLO or maybe maybe Masonboro Inlet. Meeting my wife and son in Beaufort on Sat 9th or Sun, then CLO and OCR with them, then picking up my sailing buddy for a few more days outside if wx makes it a good idea, inside if not.

Buck, from NCSail, may sail along some of the time, too. You'll probably get to meet him, and Alert, at Pirates.
