Mast Base Fix ?

In stepping the mast for the first time --1981 TMI C22 new to me -- the insert into the bottom of the mast that captures the "hook" was very loose and able to move around quite a bit. Looking at it after getting it positioned, the base had been screwed in 3 places with # 12 screws. It seems thou" the rivets had long since lost their grip.
While it's up and held in place by the shrouds I'm not going to fool with it but when I next step it I'll need a solution. Is their an upgrade anyone could suggest for when that time comes?
Thanks BC

Look for the thread titled "Mast Step Crack." And especially check out John Stahl's photos of his solution: http://s1082.photobucket.com/albums/j37 ... %20repair/

Lots of really good work done in this area over the winter months!

Welcome, by the way!

I think he is describing the insert in to the mast not the mast step. my mast plate was screwed on too. one screw was loose so i put a dab lock tight thread restorer on it and held with no problems. It could be a bear to get off the nest time.

Ah yes! I stand corrected!

Just pulled the top of my mast off. Every screw came loose, too easy, save one. Yep, you know it, I'm drilling and retapping.
