Who is the graphic artist in our group? T-Shirt Talk!

Post by CaptainScott »

Hear ye, hear ye . . .
Ladys and Gentlemen

I am putting a call out for a graphic artist in our group.

What I have in mind . . . . . . . . .

T-Shirts
I indirectly posed the idea of Chrysler Forum T-Shirts for the group buried deep in a post not related and immediately received interest in them.

So, I have ideas on what I'd like however my design skills are lacking. If I have a great idea/design I can build it however it is creatinging that idea in my head that sometimes hurts my poor engineering mind.

Here is the back of a T-Shirt I designed. I snagged the C22 gif, spent a lot of time cleaning it up, added Captain Scott Sailing to it , and used it.

Image

The TShirts I used are higher quality Haynes T's and are pretty nice. They are white. we use the iron on prints made specifically for this application and we have a T-Shirt press. On each sleeve I put the persons stand in the group. IE "Crew" for my wife. "Team Captain" for my daughter, and "Captain Scott" for me. All the other kids we left blank do to the added effort! LOL! However the extra sleeve thing looked cool. My daughter made a design for her "Team" which was on the front. Came out very nice! When designing, keep in mind printers can not print "white" so any white is from the shirt itself. We have not tried other colored shirts, IE light blue, red, etc because they are more expensive to buy.

OK, all that being said, are you willing to throw some designs at us for Chrysler Forum T-Shirt? They must fit on 8.5 X 11 print sheets. I'm open to ideas, help, and more than willing to put up multiple designs for a vote here on the forum if we have more than one idea!

Lastly, why do this?
Well, first and formost I think it is a cool idea!!

Secondly I believe we can do this cheap enough. We could sell the shirts to members. The price would include ALL costs to make them, all shipping, and probably plus 5 bucks. Not for my time of making the shirts but to help defer the costs of running the forum. I beleive not only can I make these shirts but I can keep them cheap enough so buying one or two is worth while!

If we come up with multiple designs, say a C22 Shirt, a C26 Shirt, a Dagger Shirt, Ticon, or whatever, I can make those too. No worries! The hard part is the design. Once created, printing and making the shirt is simply mechanical. The picture is irrelevant!

Ok then, let the thoughts and comments flow!

Great idea, Scott!

No help from me, I'm equally challenged in the graphic design arena. I really DO like the graphic on the back! And high quality tees are a must!

Count me in for a couple!

Sounds like we have some interest. I do have all the design stuff for the T you see. If that becomes the choice I would absolutely remove the Captain Scott stuff and replace with Chrysler Sailors Form. THAT I can do.

The thought for the front would be the Chrysler penent smaller and on the upper left breast.

Just thinking out loud anyway! : - )

In my real life I'm a commerical print buyer with a large financial company.
I've been working in the Graphic Arts industry for over 35 years.
I have access to vendors with t-shirt screen printing equipment so I may be able to help with the printing aspect, especially if we want to go with a design larger than 8.5x11
I have done graphic design, so if I get any extra time I may submit something. But that would take away from sailing time

Captain Scott, I'm in on the T-Shirt and close enough to help out on the manufacturing.

I have an updated C-22 Drawing, I did a couple years ago based off the C-22 graphic you have posted at the top.

Here is the original after I cleaned it up but it is the original graphic. Note the more parallelogram style windows.
Image

This is my tweaked C-22 drawing to more closely match our more plentiful oblong style C-22 windows like I have on my C-22.
Image

I also think this one might be nice cleaned up too.
Image

I'm okay at manipulating things like this above but real creative graphic stuff, not so much. I do know some folks who can though. I've also contemplated going back in and removing the labels which I think I might like better in a T-shirt.

I need a similar C-26 graphic if anyone has one please.

Thanks
Alan

I did this a while ago, thought it would look good on the back of a T-shirt.
Maybe a small sailboat on the front with it.

I would be interested in getting some nice C 22 shirts, not much help on the design aspect though.

Same here, I'm definitely in, but don't have a plethora of skills. I do have a Mac with Photoshop on it, so if anyone needs some good touchup work done, that I can do. This would be totally cool, I would buy more than one!

OK then!
I have a lot of C22 stuff to work with however no C26 stuff.

If I do shirts. I'd like the ability to do either so if you have any C26 images similar to the C22, let me know or post them here!

I'll start on some ideas and post here!

I see one vote for the C22 logo on the back and a small boat on the front.
I'd have thought the opposite. Bigger boat on the back and a C22 Icon on the front! LOL!

If we go small boat on the front we'll need the text removed as it will simply be cludder at that point.

What about boat color? Is black and white OK? Should I consider a few different hull colors? Red? Blue? NZ Yellow! Maybe even an off white?

Does not matter to me though! Any other ideas before I start working?
I have no worries and want to make sure everyone is at least OK with my efforts!

Alan, when it comes time to actually make the shirts, you can come by and we'll knock out a bunch! It is an easy process but extra hands help!

I'll do what I can with the C26 profile. Terrence, if you can give me a measurement from the bow to the cabin base, and from the bow to the cabin top I can also make one up for the later version.

I like the boat on the back and the small logo on the front.

However just wondering. if j42goose could colorize the C-22 logo for the front. the true Red White and Blue embroidered logo on the front of a polo shirt, no boat on the back might be classy. Cost more but a bit more High end. I bet it could also be tweaked for a c-26 on the same kind of shirt.

Thanks

I like the big boat on the back because I like the part nomenclature as well. I think it's cool. As for the front, I thought about doing the Chrysler C with a 22 or 26 within it to the left side and then a balck graphic box extending across the front with a reverse image "Chrysler" inside using the text shown in J Goose's post.

Just a thought. I'm eager for anything.

As far as those hats go, they were very nice. I have one and really like the quality!

If I make anything there is no embroidery. It is printed on, not sewn on!

Given mariners site, is there any furthere interest in the T's I can make?

I think the color symbol on the QB Store site would be great as a print-on. Really like the labeled boat drawing for the back!!!

I'm still in for a tee!!!

I'm still liking the the T-Shirt with the boat on the back and J42goose C-22 logo on the front. I'd also still like to get a similar drawing for the C-26 on the back and a J42goose C-26 logo on the front.

Thanks

OK all,

Here is what I'm thinking:

Keep the C22 diagram on the back. IF there is a similar C26 Diagram, someone please point me to it otherwise it will be the C22 for all shirts.

I would then put the Nice logos on the left breast of the shirt.

Lastly, I'm thinking "ChryslerSailors.com" on each sleeve in dark blue small but bold font.

The shirts are on hold now for a couple of weeks do to personal schedule. I will have prototypes ready for viewing late July and prices figured out.
At that point, I will start a fresh sticky post with pictures of the shirts, prices, and availablity.

Unless there is a huge out cry from the form this is my plan.

You can look forward to some new attire soon! 8)

I am highly appreciative of J-Gooses design...
I like it a great deal.

the website with the chrysler sailing logo... the design seemed awfully small. I didn't fall in love with it the way I did J-Gooses.

I love the idea of the T-shirts.... I find it both amazing, and special.
I agree with the "high quality T shirt idea". We use t-shirts regularly for sunburn protection, so my whole crew would be rep'resentin'.

I'm in for at least 6. Larger sizes that are pre-shrunk would be preferable. XL's oughtta do it.

I sure wish I could be beneficial. The design seems done....
Just a matter of gathering it all up, and applying it to the shirts.

Bill

Thanks Bill,

Click on my photo link below.
I have some of my "tinkerings" on there.
I like the sailboat over the C22 on the front.
then the c22 with the "Chrysler" big on back.

I would need to get rid of the "Nautica" sailboat and have the silhouette of an actual chrysler on there.
