I don't have a Chrysler sailboat, I have a Chrysler 25 Sailor outboard. What I am interested in is... is there a way to rig the throttle and gear shift to work from inside the cockpit? I have a Coronado 25' sailboat that has a dedicated compartment for the engine, but only a small access hole to reach the controls. Very difficult to maintain control and adjust engine speed or direction.
Any ideas would be helpful. Thanx

I rigged up a remote throttle for my Honda by using an $8 lawn mower throttle cable and mounting it on the tiller. I had to fabricate the pieces to tie it into the throttle linkage but that was no problem, just took a little head scratching.



The gear shift is pictured in the post two up from here. That may not work for your application but might give you an idea.

Now that is a throttle I could live with. Do you have more photos of this Larry? Like the connection to the motor and how you ran the control cable.

It's out of the way, small, I like it!

Here you go Alan, a little 'in depth' view of the lawn mower throttle setup.

I ran the cable over the top of the transom but it could easily be run through the laz and out a drain hole. This hookup is on a four-stroke honda, it may not be workable on yours but it'll give you some ideas.

There is a gromet right next to where the twist grip throttle cable goes in. I think that's where the factory made remote would go. I just poked a hole in the gromet to run the line in.



I used the anchor for the original control and just cut in a groove with my Dremel for the wire to drop into.



The linkage already had a second connection point for the factory cable so I just made a end piece out of brass to hook up the wire to the link.



Then, just to make sure things worked as planned I added an extra throttle spring to make sure she came back to idle when needed.
