had a AMS ( marine surveyor) at the c-26 yesterday..
I thought I would pass along some model generic information...
He loved the boat and said the hull is VERY strong and thick ( he said back then they were afraid of fiberglass and really laid it on thick...
he said a modern mass produced boat today like a McGreagor.. you could punch your fist right through the side of the hull..it is so thin..
He actually was OK withthe design of teh chainplates and sid they were good that we had three on each side, that there was a heavy "L" shaped aluminum backing plate and he really liked the practice of the vertical alumiun "leg" to tie the deck to the settee back bulkhead..
He told me NOT to ever cut into the back of those sette bulkheads as they are very strong and add a lot of vertical strength to the boat amidships. He liked the strong amidships stringers ( mine is a fixed keel)
and told me the boat was a keeper the rudder bearing were very solid.. some of the tightest he has felt ( I just had new IDASailor rudder bearing installed !!!) he said teh rudder blade was just OK but he said ALL rudders are just OK and always rot or break and a the external cheeks are a little weird but ok and solid... he told me about FossFoam for a new rudder if the blade ever rots out or breaks...
BTW he loved the big mickey mouse ear 4-blade 15 pitch prop on my suzuki 4-stroke and he told me the suzuki OB is a great motor -- one of the best and the prop is perfect to push such a heavy boat..
