Information on 1977 Chrysler 280 outboard?
Just got my first boat, a c-22, and it has a Chrysler 280 outboard that comes with it. The little bit of research I've done says it is a 12 hp. Does anyone know if this is correct and/or any other information on this motor? Thanks!

Hi ststphen,
I believe that is a 12.8 HP motor but I'm no expert.
If you go to our main page http://www.chryslersailors.com
follow the documentation link to Chryslers and outboards and you find a little info!
Again, Welcome aboard!

And when it comes to Chrysler outboards you will find no better source for parts or knowledge than Franz Buddenburg at Franz Marine.

Think "guru". You can tell him I said that too.

I have a 280 on my C22 also.
More power than you will ever need (but thats OK).
Make sure you keep the lower unit oil filled, there is a needle bearing up high just under the water pump that does not like to go dry
Parts can also be found at Mercury dealers, since they took over the motor line.
I have done a carp/fuel pump rebuild along with a lower unit, and she's been a real reliable motor ever since.
