Just out of curiosity, how may licensed captains do we have on the forum?
I've had my 6 pack with towing endorsement for about 8 years. Thinking about getting my sailing endorsement.

6 pack plus Masters plus Towing plus Sailing.
Do it.
Why not.
Get the masters too.

For those who have been there, done that:
Are the classes really necessary, or would an equal time with a good study guide do? A USCG license is on my long term to-do list, maybe sooner than later.

Scott,
Thank you! That is just the kind of answer I was looking for. I'll start looking into classes in my area.

It's on my list to do next, I'm working on getting an architects license in California right now. With bait of luck I'll start on the six pack in the spring!

I was thinking of it as a friend of mine is a USCG lic. captain and it is the lack of pictures of dead politicians with a greenish tint that stopped me but maybe someday.

Man I would like one too but I think hanging around Captain Scott is as close as I will get to a captains license any time soon.
I have looked into it and all indicators say, take the classes.
Some where I have a BIG text file from the USCG with all the test questions and there answers. They once upon a time had it all posted online. On the test, they ask you something like 100 questions, I don't know how many really but the question list was something like 1500 that they randomly pull you 100 questions from.
From time to time I pull it out and take a shot at 20 or 30 questions.
Thanks
Alan
